This 1-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid training course is ideal for individuals new to or looking to refresh their emergency paediatric first aid certification
The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies and provides the knowledge and skills to deal with a range of paediatric first aid conditions and incidents.
The qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. Learners who achieve this qualification will meet Ofsted requirements but it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that there is adequate cover for the establishment of both 2-day and 1-day qualified paediatric First Aid personnel.
The broad range of skills included in this training will equip paediatric first aiders with the knowledge they need to respond quickly and confidently if someone becomes ill or is injured in the workplace.

Your first aid needs assessment will help determine the level of first aid provision required.
This course is for new or first aiders who need to renew their Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, allowing them to remain compliant for 3 years.
✅ Entry requirements
The role of a workplace first aider can be both physically and emotionally demanding. Employers should carefully consider whether nominated individuals are able to respond effectively during emergency situations.
Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation. For example, a learner will need to get to the floor unassisted and demonstrate effective CPR on a manikin at floor level.
Minimum age: 16
Literacy: It is recommended learners hold a minimum of a Level 1 (or equivalent) to undertake this qualification.
🎯 Assessment
Scenarios are set recreating a real-life situation as far as possible to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills.
During the practical assessment the learner will be asked set related oral questions by the trainer/assessor.
The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course with the trainer/assessor making learners aware of when they are being assessed and what they are required to demonstrate.
A learner must satisfactorily complete each scenario to pass the practical assessment.
All assessments are completed in English.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I requalify rather than retaking the whole course again?
Unlike the First Aid at Work qualification, to requalify learners will need to complete the full course again.
The HSE guidance states that on expiry of their qualification a first aider is no longer considered competent to act as a first aider in the workplace. It is advisable to arrange requalification before expiry to ensure that a workplace is not left with a shortfall of qualified first aiders.
How long does a First Aid at Work certificate last?
The Emergency First Aid at Work certificate remains valid for three years from the date of issue.
